Top 10 Global Power Battery Installations from January to April: CATL Nears 118 Gwh, Three Companies Rise in Rankings

On June 4, South Korean research institution SNE Research released the latest data on global power battery installations from January to April 2025. The data showed that from January to April 2025, global power battery installations reached 308.5 GWh, up 40.2% YoY.

From the perspective of ranking changes,compared to January-April 2024, among the top 10 global power battery installation companies from January to April 2025, the top 3 companies maintained their strong positions due to their scale effects and technological advantages, with CATL, BYD, and LGES retaining their rankings.

The battery market landscape in the second and third tiers underwent significant changes, with SK On, CALB, and Gotion High-tech moving up in the rankings: SK On rose from 5th to 4th place; CALB advanced from 7th to 5th place; Gotion High-tech climbed from 9th to 6th place; Samsung SDI fell from 4th to 7th place; Panasonic dropped from 6th to 8th place; EVE slipped from 8th to 9th place; and SVOLT Energy Technology ranked 10th, being a new entrant compared to January-April 2024.

From the perspective of market share,compared to January-April 2024, among the top 10 global power battery installation companies from January to April 2025, CATL, BYD, Gotion High-tech, EVE, and SVOLT Energy Technology achieved growth, with BYD recording the highest increase at 2.2%; LGES, SK On, CALB, Samsung SDI, and Panasonic experienced varying degrees of decline.

From the perspective of YoY changes in installations,among the top 10 companies, Samsung SDI and Panasonic continued to see YoY declines in installations from January to April 2025, while the remaining eight battery companies maintained positive growth.

Regarding Chinese companies,from January to April 2025, Chinese enterprises held 6 out of the top 10 spots, with CATL, BYD, CALB, Gotion High-tech, EVE, and SVOLT Energy Technology collectively installing 209.95 GWh of batteries, increasing their market share to 68%.

Specifically, CATL retained its global top position with 117.6 GWh of installations, up 42.4% YoY, and a market share of 38.1%.

BYD, leveraging the strong sales of its new energy vehicles, ranked second globally in installations, reaching 53.4 GWh, up 60.8% YoY, and maintaining a market share of 17.3%, still the highest increase among the top 10 companies.

The other four Chinese battery enterprises maintained their growth momentum, with CALB ranking 5th globally, installing 11.9 GWh, up 21.4% YoY, and holding a market share of 3.9%.

Gotion High-tech ranked 6th globally, installing 10.6 GWh, up 82.8% YoY, and securing a market share of 3.4%.

EVE ranked 9th globally, with battery installations reaching 8.3 GWh, up 69.4% YoY, and a market share of 2.7%.

SVOLT Energy Technology ranked 10th globally, with battery installations reaching 8.1 GWh. It was the only company among the TOP 10 to achieve triple-digit YoY growth, with a growth rate of 113.2% and a market share of 2.6%.

In contrast to the high growth of Chinese enterprises, the market shares of four Japan and South Korea battery companies among the TOP 10 all declined.

For Korean companies,from January to April 2025, the combined battery installations of LGES and SK On reached 55.1 GWh, with their total market share decreasing by 4.6% YoY to 17.9%.

Among them, LGES maintained its 3rd position globally, with battery installations of 31.4 GWh, up 16.3% YoY, and its market share decreasing by 2.1 percentage points to 10.2%.

SK On ranked 4th, with battery installations of 13.4 GWh, up 24.1% YoY, but its market share also slightly decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 4.3%.

Samsung SDI ranked 7th, with battery installations of 10.3 GWh, down 11.2% YoY, and its market share also declined by 2 percentage points to 3.3%.

For Japanese companies,Panasonic ranked 8th in terms of battery installations, with installations of 9.4 GWh, down 8.7% YoY, and its market share decreasing by 1.7 percentage points YoY to 3.0%.

It is worth mentioning that other brands outside the TOP 10 collectively made significant progress, with battery installations increasing from 20.4 GWh from January to April 2024 to 34.1 GWh from January to April 2025, up 67.2% YoY. This growth rate was higher than the market average, and their market share increased from 9.3% to 11.1%.

According to the latest data released by the China Industrial Innovation Alliance for the Automotive Power Battery Industry, from January to April, China's cumulative power battery installations reached 184.3 GWh, up 52.8% YoY. A total of 48 power battery enterprises achieved battery installations, an increase of 1 compared to last year. The battery installations of the top 3, top 5, and top 10 power battery enterprises were 134.5 GWh, 151.7 GWh, and 172.0 GWh, respectively, accounting for 73.0%, 82.3%, and 93.3% of the total installations.
