Recently, Envision Energy's green hydrogen and ammonia project in Chifeng City is nearing completion.

The project, which operates entirely off-grid and is powered by 100% renewable energy, is expected to commence operations in September 2025, with an initial annual production capacity of 300,000 mt of green ammonia. Expansions will be carried out in multiple phases in the later stages, ultimately reaching an annual production capacity of 5 million mt of green ammonia.

Construction of the Chifeng green hydrogen and ammonia project commenced in April 2023, and the first phase of the project, with an initial capacity of 300,000 mt of green hydrogen and ammonia, was successfully commissioned on March 14, 2024. As part of the initial exploration phase, this phase aimed to evaluate the dynamic coupling of wind, solar, and energy storage with hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol production, addressing significant challenges in the development of zero-carbon hydrogen energy.

With the imminent completion of Phase I, Envision Energy will soon have the capability to supply substantial volumes of renewable ammonia domestically and overseas starting from Q4 2025. Following this initial phase, the annual production capacity of Phase II will double to 300,000 mt, and Phase III will add an additional 900,000 mt of annual production capacity.

At the recent World Hydrogen Summit held in Rotterdam, Envision Energy announced that the first phase of its green hydrogen and ammonia project in Chifeng had obtained renewable ammonia certification from Bureau Veritas (hereinafter referred to as "Bureau Veritas"). This means that the green hydrogen and ammonia produced by Envision in Chifeng has become the world's first green ammonia product to receive this certification, proving that its Chifeng factory complies with stringent international standards. Envision Energy is also striving to obtain China's first International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) for green ammonia, as well as Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) certification, continuously promoting transparency and standardization in the green hydrogen and ammonia industry.

In addition, Envision Energy has reached the world's first long-term green ammonia procurement agreement with Marubeni Corporation, one of Japan's five major general trading companies. The collaboration between the two parties will accelerate the large-scale production, supply, and marketization of green ammonia.

Yu Feng, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy and President of the Hydrogen Energy Market Product Line, emphasized the significance of the Bureau Veritas certification obtained at the Rotterdam Summit, which positions Envision Energy as a leader in the global renewable ammonia production sector.

Currently, Phase I of the project utilizes electricity directly transmitted from nearby wind and solar power plants to centralized hydrogen production and ammonia synthesis facilities. In the future, Envision Energy plans to address constraints in electrolytic hydrogen production by constructing an extensive hydrogen pipeline infrastructure, comprising an 800-kilometer main pipeline and multiple branch lines. This network will connect Ordos City in central and western Inner Mongolia with Chifeng City in the east, significantly simplifying hydrogen transportation.

In addition to the hydrogen pipeline, Envision Energy also plans to construct a dedicated 300-kilometer liquid ammonia distribution pipeline extending from the production site near Chifeng to Jinzhou Port, and is currently constructing an ammonia storage terminal at Jinzhou Port for export purposes. Currently, the renewable ammonia produced at the Chifeng plant is distributed locally by trucks, but this new pipeline will enable efficient, large-scale export logistics, providing direct access to international markets.
