Bulgaria has inaugurated the European Union's largest operational battery energy storage system—a 124-MW/496.2-MWh facility composed of 111 containers—located at the Balkan Industrial Park in Lovech. Opened by Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, the project marks the first step toward Bulgaria's goal of deploying 10,000 MWh of battery capacity within a year, following a recent tender that awarded nearly 9,713 MWh of projects. Developed by Advance Green Energy AD, owned by businessmen Kiril and Georgi Domuschiev, the system was completed in just six months with strong local support. It surpasses the previous national record of a 25-MW/55-MWh installation commissioned last year.
