Recently, a prototype of a floating offshore wind-powered hydrogen production and storage system, developed by China Three Gorges Shanghai Investigation, Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CTG-SIDRI), successfully completed a 720-hour real-sea trial at the offshore test site in Yazhou Bay, Sanya. This marks the first time in China that a floating offshore wind-powered hydrogen production and storage system has successfully completed a real-sea test with continuous operation exceeding 240 hours.
The design of the floating offshore wind-powered hydrogen production and storage system for this project was independently developed by the R&D Center of CTG-SIDRI, while the test equipment was jointly developed with the Ocean Engineering Team of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. After more than a year of technological breakthroughs, a set of design schemes for the hydrogen production and storage system suitable for the floating offshore wind power environment, an integrated scheme for the hydrogen production, storage, and transportation equipment, as well as customized prototype development technologies, were formulated. The relevant key technologies ensure the operational stability and reliability of the hydrogen production and storage system under large-angle motion of the floating offshore wind power and fluctuations in wind power, and have successfully completed application verification in the high-temperature, high-salinity, and high-humidity marine wind and wave environment of the South China Sea.
The successful completion of the real-sea trial of the prototype in this project has accelerated the development of China's comprehensive energy system integrating deep-sea renewable energy and hydrogen energy, providing strong technical support for the application of hydrogen production and consumption from offshore wind power and various renewable energy sources in China. CTG-SIDRI will continue to advance research on deep-sea hydrogen production technology and promote the deep integration of the offshore wind power and new energy hydrogen production industry chains.
