Recently, South Korean research institute SNE Research released data on global (excluding China) power battery installations for Q1 2025, which reached 98.4 GWh, up 26.5% YoY.

From the perspective of YoY changes in battery installations, among the top 10 companies in Q1 2025, only Samsung SDI and Panasonic saw a YoY decline in power battery installations, while the remaining eight companies achieved positive YoY growth. Among them, BYD, Gotion High-tech, CALB, and Tesla all achieved triple-digit YoY growth.

From the perspective of ranking changes, compared to Q1 2024, the rankings of the top 10 companies in Q1 2025 changed significantly. Among the top five, except for the first and second positions remaining unchanged, SK On rose from fifth place last year to third place; although Samsung SDI lagged behind SK On, it surpassed Japan's Panasonic to rank fourth; Panasonic fell from third place last year to fifth place. Among the top 6-10, BYD maintained its sixth position, while Gotion High-tech and Tesla were newly listed companies, ranking seventh and tenth, respectively; PPES and PEVE, battery companies jointly established by Toyota and Panasonic, dropped out of the top 10.

Among the top 10 enterprises in Q1 2025,Chinese companiesstill accounted for five, namely CATL, BYD, Gotion High-tech, CALB, and Farasis Energy. The total battery installations of Chinese companies in the overseas power battery market reached 41.3 GWh, with a market share consistent with the same period last year at 36.3%.

Specifically, in Q1 2025, CATL continued to maintain its global leadership in the overseas power battery market share, increasing to 29.5%, with battery installations of 29 GWh, up 35.5% YoY. It is worth noting that CATL is expected to be listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and commence trading on May 20, 2025, becoming one of the largest IPO projects in the Hong Kong stock market in recent years, with an expected total fundraising amount of $4-5 billion. With its listing in Hong Kong, its market share in overseas markets is expected to further increase.

BYD's battery installations reached 6.4 GWh, up 104.7% YoY, with its market share increasing from 4% in the same period last year to 6.5%, maintaining its sixth position.

Gotion High-tech, a new entrant on the list compared to Q1 2024, recorded battery installations of 2 GWh, up 108.2% YoY, with a market share of 2% and ranking 7th. Meanwhile, it rose one position in the rankings compared to January-February 2025.
