China Launches World's Largest Fleet of Autonomous Electric Mining Trucks

China has launched the world's largest fleet of driverless electric mining trucks in Inner Mongolia, deploying 100 autonomous vehicles developed by Huaneng Mengdong, a subsidiary of the state-backed Huaneng Group, and equipped with Huawei’s autonomous driving technology. These "Huaneng Ruichi" trucks utilize advanced technologies such as 5G-A, AI, cloud computing, intelligent battery swapping, and high-precision mapping, enabling them to operate reliably in harsh coal mining conditions and autonomously load and unload materials. The deployment, supported by partners like Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group and the Beijing University of Science and Technology, is expected to increase transport efficiency by 20%. The China National Coal Association projects over 5,000 automated mining trucks in operation nationwide by the end of 2025, rising to 10,000 by 2026.
