Russian Metallurgical Production Index in March 2025 and Steel Production Data

[SMM News] SMM reported on May 15 that according to the "Report on the Social and Economic Situation in Russia" released by the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, the metallurgical production index in the Russian Federation in March 2025 was 97.9% YoY, higher than the 97.2% in Q1.

In March, the production of unalloyed steel ingots/other primary forms and semi-finished products decreased by 4.4% YoY to 4.8 million mt, and increased by 8.6% MoM. The year-to-date production decreased by 2.6% to 13.8 million mt. The production of stainless steel ingots/other primary forms and semi-finished products was 23,600 mt, a decrease of 15.2% YoY and an increase of 6.4% MoM from February. From January to March, production decreased by 12.1%.

In March, the total production of other alloy steel ingots/other primary forms and semi-finished products made from them was 1.3 million mt, an increase of 10.9% MoM from February and a decrease of 5.1% YoY. In Q1 2025, production decreased by 10%.

Russian steel producers manufactured 5 million mt of finished rolled products in March, a decrease of 6.9% YoY and an increase of 10.4% MoM from the previous month. According to data from the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, since the beginning of the year, production has decreased by 5.2% to 14.4 million mt.
