Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, announced that Indonesia plans to gradually reduce and eventually halt fuel imports from Singapore, as despite its proximity, Singapore's prices are not competitive, and fuel prices in Middle Eastern countries are more advantageous by comparison. Currently, approximately 54% to 59% of Indonesia's fuel imports come from Singapore, but the government has begun constructing larger terminals to accommodate larger vessels and import fuel more efficiently from other sources. Bahlil also noted that geopolitical and geo-economic factors are driving Indonesia to diversify its fuel import sources, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining diversified energy imports and safeguarding national energy security.
