US April CPI Data Misses Expectations, Hits New Low Since 2021

[US Department of Labor Releases April CPI Data] On May 13, the US Department of Labor released the April CPI data. The unadjusted year-on-year CPI rate was 2.3%, hitting a new low since February 2021 and falling short of the expected 2.4%. The seasonally adjusted month-on-month CPI rate was 0.2%, also falling short of the expected 0.3%. In April, the unadjusted year-on-year core CPI rate in the US was 2.8%, in line with market expectations and remaining at the lowest level since March 2021. The month-on-month rate was 0.2%, lower than the market expectation of 0.3%.
