The Indonesian government is promoting diversified clean transportation technologies to accelerate the achievement of its net-zero emissions (NZE) target, with a national goal set for 2060, while the manufacturing sector (including the automotive industry) aims to achieve it earlier, by 2050. Although electric vehicles (EVs) remain a key focus, the government is also exploring other technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and biofuels, which offer zero-emission potential and faster refueling efficiency. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang emphasized that this multi-technology approach is crucial for driving the transition to a green economy. Companies like Toyota have already introduced hydrogen-powered vehicles in Indonesia and opened a hydrogen refueling station in Karawang in February 2025. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also plans to build more hydrogen refueling stations in key areas such as Jakarta to raise public awareness and expand environmentally friendly transportation options.
