Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has asked nickel companies to provide concrete data on potential losses due to the upcoming increase in nickel royalty rates—from 10% to 14–19%, effective April 26, 2025. During a recent meeting with industry groups APNI and FINI to address concerns over the new royalty policy, the government emphasized that all decisions will be based on data-supported claims and that they continue to take into account the profitability of the companies involved. Minerba Director General Tri Winarno stated that internal reviews suggest miners should not face losses and challenged companies to present evidence. APNI Advisor, Djoko Widajatno, pledged that the association would submit relevant data and called for further discussions with the government to ensure a fair outcome.
