A landmark collaboration has emerged in Australia's mining sector—GreenTech Metals and Artemis Resources have officially announced the merger of their lithium exploration assets in Western Australia's Pilbara region, forming a new joint venture named Andover Lithium. This powerful alliance not only establishes the largest lithium exploration platform in the area but also demonstrates forward-thinking strategic planning during a market downturn.

Under the agreement, the newly formed Andover Lithium will consolidate premium mining rights covering 420 square kilometers—equivalent to 58,000 standard football fields. Significantly, the joint venture area is located along the renowned Karratha-Roebourne lithium corridor, adjacent to Azure Minerals' massive Andover lithium deposit (with an exploration target of 240 million tonnes at 1.5% lithium oxide grade). Four out of six key target zones have already confirmed outcroppings of spodumene-bearing pegmatites, considered direct evidence of high-grade mineralization.

The 50-50 equity structure reflects a balanced partnership model. GreenTech's CEO stated, "This scaled portfolio of mining rights will significantly enhance appeal to strategic investors". Consolidating exploration assets during the current lithium price downturn not only shares cost pressures but also reserves premium resources for the next market recovery.

Market observers view this "counter-cyclical move" as demonstrating management foresight. The joint venture could either serve as an independent platform for potential IPO when lithium prices rebound or attract major industry players seeking resource control. As mining veterans say, "In the resources sector, scale itself is the best risk hedge."

With accelerating global energy transition, Western Australia's Pilbara region is increasingly prominent as a core hard-rock lithium producer. This collaboration not only reshapes regional exploration dynamics but also injects new momentum into Australia's upstream lithium supply chain through resource consolidation. Andover Lithium is reportedly planning to launch its first exploration phase in Q3 this year, potentially triggering a new wave of investment activity.

Gulf disruption squeezes Indonesia nickel makers' sulphur supply
Due to the conflict in the Middle East, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted, raising the risk of tighter global sulphur supplies. Indonesia relies on the Middle East for around 75% of its sulphur imports, and sulphur is a key raw material for producing sulphuric acid, which is essential for leaching metals in nickel and copper processing. Analysts note that sulphur inventories at Indonesia’s HPAL nickel plants typically cover only one to two months of consumption. If transport disruptions persist, some plants may be forced to cut production as early as next month. Overall, if shipping disruptions in the Middle East continue for more than a few weeks, production and demand for related metals may need to slow.

Inner Mongolia Envision's 120 MW Wind-Storage Project Achieves Grid Connection on March 3
On March 3, the 120,000 kW generation-grid-load-storage integrated project of Inner Mongolia Envision New Materials Co., Ltd. in Damaoqi successfully achieved grid connection. The project’s core construction covers two major segments: power supply and energy storage. The wind power section has a total installed capacity of 120 MW, with a 22 MW/22 MWh electrochemical ESS built simultaneously. The project adopts advanced grid-forming ESS technology, enabling smoothing and regulation of wind power output and flexible power dispatch, effectively improving the stability of power supply and supporting the efficient consumption of new energy power.
