According to the MiningNews.net website, ASX-listed company Belararox announced that the second drill hole at the Tambo South target of its Toro-Malambo-Tambo (TMT) project in the Andes Mountains of Argentina has intersected thick copper sulphide mineralization.
The hole is still being drilled towards the target depth of 1,300 meters as planned, with logging showing four visible copper sulphide intervals within the depth range of 104 to 640 meters.
The main ore minerals include chalcocite, covellite, chalcopyrite, and supergene chalcocite, with an estimated copper grade of 0.08%-0.4%. Minor amounts of zinc and sulphides were also observed.
Although Belararox cautioned that visual observations cannot replace sample analysis, exploration manager Jason Ward believes that the relatively continuous mineralization at Tambo South seems to indicate the superposition of porphyry mineralization with high-sulphidation epithermal mineralization.
The second hole is drilling into the simulated porphyry center.
This encouraging result is also supported by the first gold drill hole at Tambo South, which intersected 30 meters of mineralization at a depth of 102 meters with a copper grade of 0.13%, and another 30 meters at a depth of 154 meters with a grade of 0.10%.
Affected by complex geological conditions, the hole was terminated at a depth of 1,029 meters, failing to reach the target depth.
Among other targets in the TMT project, the first drill hole at the Malambo target was completed at 1,166 meters, with extensive quartz veins and visible molybdenum and trace copper sulphides.
Malambo is delineated by a large soil anomaly, similar to SolGold's Alpala and Tandayama porphyry deposits in Ecuador and the Yerington porphyry copper deposit in Nevada.
The second hole has commenced and was completed at a depth of 600 meters to validate a shallow geochemical model.
"Tambo South is a key target of the entire TMT project, located between the world-class El Indio and Maricunga metallogenic belts, making it an excellent place for copper exploration," said company manager Arvind Misra.
"These early signs indicate a large system."
The company stated that it is "searching for giant deposits in a giant metallogenic belt."
The TMT project is adjacent to the Filo del Sol (FDS) copper mine, which was recently acquired by BHP and Lundin Mining for $4 billion.
For more updates on the copper industry chain, you are welcome to attend the CCIE 2025 SMM (20th) Copper Conference and Copper Industry Expo, hosted by SMM, which will be held in Nanchang, Jiangxi from April 22-25, 2025. Over 3,000 industry elites, representatives from upstream and downstream enterprises of the copper industry chain, government officials, industry associations, third-party equipment, logistics and warehousing, as well as experts from universities and research institutions will gather together. The conference covers mining, smelting, copper processing, trade, recycling, and end-use applications, encompassing the entire copper industry chain. At the event, more than 100 exhibitors will showcase the latest copper processing and smelting equipment, high-quality raw material suppliers, and new-type copper-based materials, highlighting the innovation and vitality of the copper industry.
The conference features a variety of exciting activities: the main forum focuses on global copper market trends, raw material supply, policy impacts, and market outlook. Sub-forums delve into specific areas such as electrical power transmission and distribution, secondary copper, copper-based new materials, hardware and plumbing, and ESS, exploring industry hot topics. During the conference, a two-day field trip will visit 12 representative enterprises in the copper industry with a cumulative capacity of 1 million mt, sharing cutting-edge technologies and valuable experiences to promote the upgrading of the copper industry chain and drive high-quality development in the industry.
