The financing secured, which amounts to $334 million, will be used to develop the 200MW Branch Solar project in Branch County, Michigan, and the 50MW Genesee Solar project in Genesee County.

Michigan is not among the leading states in solar deployment. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), by the end of 2024, Michigan ranked 26th among all 50 U.S. states, with a cumulative installed solar capacity of just over 1.8GW. Utility-scale solar projects account for the majority of the state's annual capacity additions. NorthStar Clean Energy’s development represents a significant milestone for Michigan’s solar sector, with its 250MW capacity accounting for more than half of the state’s total solar additions in 2024, which was approximately 450MW.

Additionally, Michigan is taking further steps to expand its solar power capacity. In October last year, DTE Energy commissioned a 150MW solar plant in the state and has received approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission to develop 6.5GW of solar capacity by 2042.

NALCO Solar Project Commissioned, Planned Additional Aluminum Capacity Constrained
National Aluminium Company (NALCO) reported that its 130 kWp rooftop solar project in the Damanjodi mining area had officially commenced operations. Meanwhile, the smelter's 960 electrolytic cells continued to operate at full capacity, with an annual operating scale of approximately 460,000 mt. At present, NALCO is expected to add 500,000-600,000 mt of aluminum capacity. The project is currently in the feasibility study and environmental impact assessment (EIA) stage; however, its progress is constrained by the construction schedule of the power plant.

[SMM PV News] European PPA Volumes Hit 2-Year High at 2.2 GW
European developers signed 30 power purchase agreements ('PPAs') totaling 2.2 GW in February, marking the highest monthly volume since February 2024. Corporates drove the surge, accounting for 1.5 GW across 21 deals. A standout was a 426 MW solar PPA in Spain spanning a record-breaking 40 years. Analysts note a growing trend of contracting operational assets rather than new builds to bridge price expectation gaps. The battery energy storage ('BESS') sector also saw strong activity with 14 deals totaling 1.2 GW/3.3 GWh. Meanwhile, average tracked PPA prices fell 6.4% month-on-month to €42.70/MWh, led by an 11.4% drop in Italy following the DL Energia decree.
