SMM March 21 News: In January-February 2025, China's cumulative bauxite imports reached 30.62 million mt, up 25.6% YoY. By country, imports from Guinea amounted to 23.39 million mt, accounting for 76.38% of the total, up 29.3% YoY; imports from Australia were 5.29 million mt, making up 17.26% of the total, down 3.6% YoY; non-mainstream bauxite imports totaled 1.95 million mt, representing 6.36% of the total, an increase of 139% compared to the 2024 non-mainstream bauxite import total.
According to the General Administration of Customs of China, in January 2025, China imported 16.21 million mt of bauxite, up 8.23% MoM and 23.31% YoY. By country, imports from Guinea were 12.661 million mt, up 21.9% MoM and 37.18% YoY; imports from Australia were 2.922 million mt, down 13.78% MoM and 15.87% YoY; imports from Turkey were 259,000 mt, from Malaysia 191,000 mt, from Laos 107,000 mt, from Montenegro 48,000 mt, and from Pakistan 20,000 mt, with a total of 625,000 mt for non-mainstream bauxite imports.
According to the General Administration of Customs of China, in February 2025, China imported 14.41 million mt of bauxite, down 11.06% MoM and up 28.25% YoY. By country, imports from Guinea were 10.729 million mt, down 15.26% MoM and up 21.17% YoY; imports from Australia were 2.363 million mt, down 19.15% MoM and up 17.52% YoY; imports from Turkey were 690,000 mt, from Ghana 204,000 mt, from Laos 61,000 mt, from Guyana 146,000 mt, from the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire 104,000 mt, from Montenegro 49,000 mt, from India 52,000 mt, and from Pakistan 18,000 mt, with a total of 1.323 million mt for non-mainstream bauxite imports.
