In the upcoming year of 2025, we anticipate that the global economy will face a series of complex and volatile challenges. With the conclusion of the US presidential election, uncertainties in global trade policies are expected to further increase, bringing new issues to international trade cooperation. In the geopolitical arena, ongoing conflicts and tensions show no significant signs of easing, posing threats not only to global security but also to resource allocation and industrial layout. Against this macro backdrop, industrial relocation and supply chain restructuring have become critical topics that demand our close attention. At the industry level, the trend of protectionism in mineral resources is on the rise, directly impacting the stability of global copper concentrate TCs. With the rapid expansion of global smelting capacity, the profit margins of copper smelters are further compressed, and the challenges faced by the industry are becoming increasingly severe. In the field of secondary copper raw materials, the advancement of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and the "dual carbon" goals have significantly increased market attention on secondary copper. However, the "reverse invoicing" policy and the Fair Competition Ordinance implemented in 2024 have had a profound impact on the secondary copper industry. Looking ahead to 2025, changes in the secondary copper industry landscape are expected to have a critical impact on the entire copper industry chain. Additionally, with the cancellation of tax subsidies and other incentives, the trading space for copper cathode will further narrow. We anticipate that the procurement ratio of copper processed materials between traders and smelters will show more pronounced differentiation.

Against this backdrop, SMM has meticulously prepared the “CCIE 2025 SMM (20th) Copper Industry Conference and Copper Industry Expo”, which will be grandly held in Nanchang, Jiangxi, from April 22-25, 2025. Dongguan Changrong Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. will make a splendid appearance at this conference. We will keep pace with the times, aim for our goals, and forge ahead with determination and courage!

Peru sees 1 million t/y copper output boost within five to six years
Peru's Energy and Mines Minister Guillermo Shinno said the country expects to add about 1 million tonnes of annual copper production within five to six years through new mining projects. The world's third-largest copper producer anticipates 2026 output of 2.5 to 2.7 million tonnes, roughly unchanged from 2023 as declining ore grades and recurring social conflicts weigh on supply. The newly elected government is seeking to reverse that stagnation by cutting red tape; in the two months since taking office, mining companies have stepped up engagement with the ministry. Shinno said officials have identified 27 permits that could be eliminated from roughly 100 mining-sector requirements, without lowering environmenta

Sulphuric Acid Shortage Emerges as a Constraint on Zambia’s Copper Growth
Zambia’s sulphuric acid shortage is becoming a growing constraint on copper production and refining. Jubilee Metals reported acid costs rising by more than 200% in Q4 FY2026, while Sable cathode output fell to 250 t from 361 t in Q3. Government data also showed small-scale copper production down 35.2% YoY in H1 2026, highlighting the sector’s exposure to tight acid availability and higher processing costs.
