On January 27, the National Energy Administration released the 2024 PV power construction data, showing new PV installations of 277.57GW in 2024.

Among these, centralized new installations reached 159.39GW, up 33% YoY; distributed new installations were 118.18GW, up 23% YoY; residential new installations were 29.55GW, down 23% YoY; and commercial and industrial new installations were 88.63GW, up 68% YoY.

By province, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Jiangsu led the way, each with new PV installations exceeding 20GW, accounting for one-third of the total new installations. Following them were nine provinces—Shandong, Hebei, Yunnan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Anhui, and Hubei—with new installations exceeding 10GW.

For centralized installations, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia recorded the highest new installation scales, each exceeding 20GW. They were followed by Yunnan, Hebei, and Qinghai, each with new installations exceeding 10GW.

For distributed installations, Jiangsu ranked first nationwide with new installations of 17.97GW. Zhejiang and Guangdong also recorded new installations exceeding 10GW. Anhui, Shandong, Guangxi, Hubei, Henan, Hunan, and Hebei each had new installations exceeding 5GW.

In terms of residential distributed new installations, Jiangsu led significantly with 8.42GW. Anhui, Zhejiang, and Shandong each recorded new installations exceeding 2GW.

For commercial and industrial distributed PV, Guangdong and Zhejiang tied for first place with new installations of 9.97GW. They were followed by six provinces—Jiangsu, Shandong, Guangxi, Hubei, Henan, and Anhui—with new installations exceeding 5GW.

China Approves 17.44 GW Power Plan for Qaidam Desert Base, Including Solar, Wind, and Energy Storage Projects
It is understood that the National Energy Administration has officially approved the power source allocation plan for the "Qaidam Desert Base (East Golmud) Base". The planned construction scale of the power source projects at this base is 17.44 million kilowatts, including 10 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, 5 million kilowatts of wind power, 2.64 million kilowatts of coal-fired power, 0.1 million kilowatts of solar thermal power, and 1.5 million kilowatts (for 4 hours) of electrochemical energy storage. The total investment in the projects is about 86 billion yuan. The new energy will be transmitted to Guangxi through the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" UHV power transmission project. Currently, significant progress has been made in the preliminary work of the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" project, w

[SMM PV News] Armenia Hits 1.1 GW Solar Capacity,
Armenia’s cumulative solar capacity has surged to 1.1 GW following the addition of approximately 615 MW in 2025. This rapid expansion has pushed solar's share of electricity generation to around 15%, effectively meeting the country's 2030 target years ahead of schedule. The growth is heavily driven by a net-metering scheme supporting over 50,000 autonomous producers (totaling 650 MW), though the government ended loan subsidies for rooftop solar in July to shift focus toward battery storage.
