[US PV Module Capacity Exceeds 50GW] On February 4, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) published an article stating that US manufacturing has reached a historic milestone—domestic PV module capacity in the US has exceeded 50GW. If these factories operate at full capacity, they will be able to meet all domestic demand for PV products in the US. (Polaris Solar PV Network)

On February 4, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) in the US published an article stating that US manufacturing has reached a historic milestone—domestic PV module capacity has exceeded 50 GW. If these factories operate at full capacity, they are expected to meet all domestic demand for PV products in the US.

According to SEIA, this achievement is a critical step in establishing a PV supply chain in the US, which will end the country's reliance on foreign companies and support domestic employment.

Based on SEIA supply chain data, companies plan to add 56 GW of solar cell capacity, 24 GW of silicon wafer capacity, and 13 GW of silicon ingot capacity in the US. Currently, solar tracker manufacturing capacity has already exceeded 80 GW.

It is reported that in 2020, SEIA set a goal of "achieving 50 GW of US solar manufacturing capacity by 2030." This ambitious target covers all segments of the solar supply chain, including modules, solar cells, silicon ingots and wafers, polysilicon, trackers, and PV inverters. At that time, the US had only 7 GW of PV module capacity, 41,000 mt of polysilicon capacity, and some PV inverter and racking manufacturing capacity, while other critical upstream materials lacked domestic manufacturing capabilities.

China Approves 17.44 GW Power Plan for Qaidam Desert Base, Including Solar, Wind, and Energy Storage Projects
It is understood that the National Energy Administration has officially approved the power source allocation plan for the "Qaidam Desert Base (East Golmud) Base". The planned construction scale of the power source projects at this base is 17.44 million kilowatts, including 10 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, 5 million kilowatts of wind power, 2.64 million kilowatts of coal-fired power, 0.1 million kilowatts of solar thermal power, and 1.5 million kilowatts (for 4 hours) of electrochemical energy storage. The total investment in the projects is about 86 billion yuan. The new energy will be transmitted to Guangxi through the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" UHV power transmission project. Currently, significant progress has been made in the preliminary work of the "Qinghai-Guangxi DC" project, w

[SMM PV News] Armenia Hits 1.1 GW Solar Capacity,
Armenia’s cumulative solar capacity has surged to 1.1 GW following the addition of approximately 615 MW in 2025. This rapid expansion has pushed solar's share of electricity generation to around 15%, effectively meeting the country's 2030 target years ahead of schedule. The growth is heavily driven by a net-metering scheme supporting over 50,000 autonomous producers (totaling 650 MW), though the government ended loan subsidies for rooftop solar in July to shift focus toward battery storage.
