BYD scores 49.16% YoY surge in Jan. 2025 vehicle sales

BYD Company Limited reported sales of 300,538 new vehicles for the month of January 2025, marking a remarkable year-on-year surge of 49.16%, but showing a month-on-month plunge of 41.62%.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD Company Limited ("BYD") reported sales of 300,538 new vehicles for the month of January 2025, marking a remarkable year-on-year surge of 49.16%, but showing a month-on-month plunge of 41.62% as the Chinese New Year holiday falling earlier than that of the previous year.

Of the new vehicles sold last month, passenger vehicle sales reached 296,446 units, a staggering 47.47% hike compared to the prior-year period but a month-on-month drop of 41.81%. Breaking down the sales by powertrain solutions, battery electric vehicle sales totaled 125,377 units, reflecting a year-on-year jump of 19.06%, but indicating a month-on-month decline of 39.65%. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle sales amounted to 171,069 units, showing a dramatic increase of 78.73% year-on-year, but posting a 43.3% month-on-month decrease, contributing 57.71% to BYD's overall passenger vehicle sales.

Additionally, BYD announced that its overseas sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 66,336 units in the first month of 2025, marking a year-on-year spike of 83.4%.

As for updates on BYD's global business expansion, on January 16, BYD held a brand launch event in Incheon's Jung-gu district, South Korea, officially unveiling its strategy and vehicle model rollout plans for the South Korean passenger vehicle market. This year, BYD will introduce three models to the local market: the BYD ATTO 3 (named Yuan PLUS in China), BYD SEAL, and BYD SEALION 7 (named Sealion 07 EV in China). The ATTO 3 will be the first model to go on pre-sale.

Last month, BYD also made its official entry into El Salvador's passenger car market. The first BYD dealership in the region opened for business on the same day, showcasing several models, including the BYD DOLPHIN, BYD YUAN PRO, BYD SEAL, BYD SONG PRO DM-i, and BYD SONG PLUS DM-i.

The company also sold 4,092 commercial vehicles last month, which skyrocketed 763.29% over a year earlier despite a month-on-month dip of 23.78%. 

Breaking the monthly sales down by brand and product series, the Dynasty and Ocean series together sold 278,221 vehicles in January, displaying a robust leap of 50.3% from the year-ago period. The DENZA brand recorded sales of 11,720 units (+29.2% YoY), while the FANFGCHENGBAO and YANGWANG brands logged sales of 6,219 units and 286 units, respectively.
