SMM, January 24: According to market feedback, the weekly production of sample silicon enterprises in Xinjiang was 28,495 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 59%, showing a slight increase WoW. This week, the operating conditions of sample silicon enterprises in Xinjiang were mixed. As the Chinese New Year approached, the trading atmosphere in the silicon metal market was subdued, and silicon prices remained at low levels. Some small silicon plants in Xinjiang underwent production cuts and maintenance during the week, while a few large silicon plants resumed operation of previously idled submerged arc furnaces. Since the resumed production involved large furnaces, the overall production of sample silicon plants in Xinjiang saw a slight increase this week.

In north-west China, the weekly production of sample silicon enterprises was 11,070 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 82%. The statistical scope for the north-west region includes Qinghai, Ningxia, and Gansu. Weekly operations remained stable, but some manufacturers indicated plans for production increases after the Chinese New Year.

In Yunnan, the weekly production of sample silicon enterprises was 2,430 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 29%, down WoW. In-plant inventory fluctuated slightly. No production cuts occurred among the sample silicon plants during the week. The decline in production was mainly due to the continued impact of production halts by certain manufacturers last week. However, some sample manufacturers reported plans to shut down furnaces by month-end, and operating rates in Yunnan are expected to decline slightly.

In Sichuan, the weekly production of sample silicon enterprises was 0 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 0%. Currently, none of the sample silicon enterprises in Sichuan are in operation, and only a few silicon enterprises outside the sample are maintaining production.

Before the holiday, the black chain is unlikely to see a trend-driven market [SMM Steel Industry Chain Weekly Report].
This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
