[SMM Weekly Review: Enterprises Gradually Halt Production for Holiday, Rare Earth Prices Remain Stable During the Week] During the week, rare earth oxide prices overall maintained an upward trend. As the Chinese New Year holiday approached, downstream purchasing activity increased rather than decreased, which led to a relatively noticeable rise in rare earth oxide prices this week. Yttrium oxide prices remained stable this week at 40,000-43,000 yuan/mt.

January 23 News:

Rare Earth Ore:

During the week, rare earth ore prices continued to fluctuate upward. According to the SMM survey, due to tight supply at the mining end, rare earth raw material prices overall continued to rise. As the Chinese New Year approaches, suppliers' willingness to sell has also remained relatively low.

Rare Earth Oxides:

This week, lanthanum oxide prices remained stable at 3,600-4,000 yuan/mt, and cerium oxide prices also stayed stable at 7,700-8,200 yuan/mt. Throughout the week, rare earth oxide prices overall maintained an upward trend. As the holiday approaches, downstream purchasing activity has increased rather than decreased, leading to a noticeable rise in rare earth oxide prices this week. Yttrium oxide prices continued to remain stable at 40,000-43,000 yuan/mt this week.

Rare Earth Metals:

In terms of metals, most metal plants followed the oxide price increases in their quotations. The cash price of Pr-Nd alloy rose to a peak of 515,000 yuan/mt. However, according to metal plants, downstream magnetic material enterprises still exert significant pressure to lower prices during procurement, with some magnetic material enterprises managing to purchase Pr-Nd alloy from traders at prices below 510,000 yuan/mt.

Rare Earth Permanent Magnets:

This week, as most magnetic material enterprises entered the holiday period, procurement activity significantly decreased, and market transactions also declined. Although some large enterprises continued production during the Chinese New Year, their focus was mainly on fulfilling existing orders, resulting in fewer external quotations and limited market trading volume.

Rare Earth Scrap:

Currently, the scrap market has been relatively quiet as many regions have entered the holiday period. Although some scrap trading companies had small urgent procurement needs before the holiday, actual transactions were not active. Meanwhile, many scrap separation enterprises have suspended quotations, relying mainly on existing inventory and waiting for post-holiday market developments.

US Rare Earth Company Partners with Canadian SRC to Build $40M Heavy Rare Earth Metal Facility
US rare earth company REalloys announced that it is partnering with the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) of Canada to build a heavy rare earth metal facility. The equipment will be built at SRC’s Saskatoon plant and, after commissioning, relocated to Ohio to supply dysprosium and terbium to clients in the US defense industrial base and to the Defense Logistics Agency’s strategic reserves. The facility will cost $40 million and is expected to produce 30 mt of dysprosium metal and 15 mt of terbium metal annually. Initial operations are targeted for early to mid-2027, with full commercial operations expected from mid-2027 to year-end.

This afternoon, quotations for Pr-Nd oxide further recovered, with current mainstream offers from suppliers concentrated in the range of 800,000-805,000 yuan/mt. Some plants disclosed that there had already been a small number of transactions for Pr-Nd oxide in the market at 802,000-803,000 yuan/mt, while the actual transaction price of Pr-Nd alloy was within the range of 990,000-1 million yuan/mt. In contrast, quotations in the medium-heavy rare earth market remained stable, with no significant fluctuations.

[SMM Rare Earth Weekly Review: Rare Earth Prices Fell First, Then Rose; Pr-Nd, Dysprosium, and Terbium Saw Wide Swings] Due to the combined impact of market news and falling futures prices, suppliers in the Pr-Nd oxide market lacked confidence in the future market and proactively cut prices for shipments. However, upstream separation plants believed that the tight supply pattern of Pr-Nd oxide had not changed. Therefore, Pr-Nd oxide prices pulled back to 760,000-780,000 yuan/mt before rebounding to 790,000-800,000 yuan/mt.
