[SMM Analysis: 2025 Secondary Aluminum Alloy Enterprises' Chinese New Year Break Arrangements] This year, most secondary aluminum alloy enterprises entered the holiday after January 20.

SMM January 21 News:

The Chinese New Year holiday is approaching next week, and the holiday schedules of various secondary aluminum plants have been gradually confirmed. The specific details are as follows:

This year, most secondary aluminum alloy enterprises began their holidays after January 20. According to SMM, 14% of enterprises (mainly small and medium-sized enterprises or those in north China) started their holidays between January 10-15, 70% of enterprises ceased operations between January 20-26, and 14% of enterprises (primarily those with direct aluminum liquid supply or large enterprises) started their holidays only after January 27, which is the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month. The resumption of work is concentrated around February 5, the eighth day of the first lunar month, while some enterprises have yet to determine their specific resumption dates, which will depend on the holiday schedules of downstream customers. The number of days each plant shuts down varies, with approximately 25% of enterprises taking production breaks of no more than 10 days, 55% taking breaks of 10-20 days, and 20% taking breaks exceeding 20 days. Overall, the holiday schedules of secondary aluminum plants this year show little difference compared to previous years.

Regarding inventory preparation, due to the continued tight circulation of aluminum scrap and the upward fluctuation of aluminum prices before the holiday, the procurement costs for secondary aluminum plants remain high. Although manufacturers have actively prepared inventories, the overall inventory levels are still relatively low. Downstream enterprises mostly completed their inventory preparation last week, but the overall inventory volume remains low. Since the beginning of this week, secondary aluminum plants have gradually stopped taking orders and entered a concentrated holiday period. Meanwhile, with downstream enterprises halting production and logistics operations ceasing, market transactions have gradually weakened, and the phenomenon of "prices without transactions" is becoming increasingly evident.
