On January 14 local time in the US, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the addition of 37 Chinese companies to the so-called "Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List." According to the announcement, the newly added list will officially take effect on January 15, 2025, local time in the US. Based on the US Department of the Treasury's announcement, the total number of entities on the UFLPA sanctions list has now reached 144, marking the largest single addition of entities since the list's inception.

According to the announcement, starting January 15, 2025, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will apply a rebuttable presumption to goods produced by the 37 entities listed, prohibiting their products from entering the US.

The 37 companies newly added to the UFLPA list

Regarding the above news, at the regular press conference of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on January 15, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jia Kun Guo, in response to related inquiries from foreign media reporters, stated that the so-called "forced labor" is completely baseless. The US fabricates and enforces laws related to Xinjiang based on lies, adding Chinese companies to the sanctions list. This is essentially an attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs, harm China's interests, and suppress and contain China. China will take resolute measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

It is reported that among the 37 companies newly added to the list, five are PV companies. They are:

Donghai JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd.

Hongyuan Green Energy Co., Ltd.

Jiangsu Meike Solar Technology Co., Ltd.

Baotou Meike Silicon Energy Co., Ltd.

Shuangliang Silicon Materials (Baotou) Co., Ltd.

It is understood that the UFLPA was signed into law in December 2021 by the current US President Joe Biden. Under this law, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) presumes that goods mined, produced, or manufactured in Xinjiang, China, or by UFLPA-listed entities, may not be imported into the US unless CBP has clear and convincing evidence that the goods were not produced using forced labor.
