[Five PV Companies Added to US Sanctions List, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Responds!] On January 14 local time in the US, the Department of Homeland Security announced the addition of 37 Chinese companies to the so-called "Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act Entity List." According to the announcement, the newly added list will officially take effect on January 15, 2025, local time in the US. Based on the announcement from the US Department of the Treasury, the total number of entities on the UFLPA sanctions list has now reached 144, marking the largest single addition of entities since the list's inception. On January 14 local time in the US, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the addition of 37 Chinese companies to the so-called "Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List." According to the announcement, the newly added list will officially take effect on January 15, 2025, local time in the US. Based on the US Department of the Treasury's announcement, the total number of entities on the UFLPA sanctions list has now reached 144, marking the largest single addition of entities since the list's inception.

According to the announcement, starting January 15, 2025, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will apply a rebuttable presumption to goods produced by the 37 entities listed, prohibiting their products from entering the US.

The 37 companies newly added to the UFLPA list

Regarding the above news, at the regular press conference of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on January 15, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jia Kun Guo, in response to related inquiries from foreign media reporters, stated that the so-called "forced labor" is completely baseless. The US fabricates and enforces laws related to Xinjiang based on lies, adding Chinese companies to the sanctions list. This is essentially an attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs, harm China's interests, and suppress and contain China. China will take resolute measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

It is reported that among the 37 companies newly added to the list, five are PV companies. They are:

Donghai JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd.

Hongyuan Green Energy Co., Ltd.

Jiangsu Meike Solar Technology Co., Ltd.

Baotou Meike Silicon Energy Co., Ltd.

Shuangliang Silicon Materials (Baotou) Co., Ltd.

It is understood that the UFLPA was signed into law in December 2021 by the current US President Joe Biden. Under this law, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) presumes that goods mined, produced, or manufactured in Xinjiang, China, or by UFLPA-listed entities, may not be imported into the US unless CBP has clear and convincing evidence that the goods were not produced using forced labor.

Silicone quotes rise moderately; polysilicon spot transactions are few [SMM Silicon-based PV Morning Meeting Summary]
[SMM Silicon-Based PV Morning Meeting Summary] Silicon metal: Yesterday, SMM oxygen-blown #553 silicon in east China was around 9,400-9,500 yuan/mt, and #441 silicon was around 9,500-9,700 yuan/mt. Silicon enterprises on the supply side maintained firm quotes, futures prices consolidated at highs, and in some parts of northwest China, spot-futures price spread quotes from traders strengthened slightly compared with the previous period. Low-priced goods were scarce in the market, and downstream buyers remained cautious, mainly making just-in-time procurement or buying on dips. Polysilicon: N-type recharging polysilicon was quoted at 36-42.6 yuan/kg. Currently, producers' quotes were relatively stable, market transactions were extremely limited, and downstream buyers showed some resistance to high-priced resources. There was no concrete implementation progress from the relevant meeting yet, and the market was watching for subsequent developments.

[SMM PV News] Trinasolar's 1GW Vertex TOPCon Module Illuminates the Green Answer in the Tengger Desert
In midsummer, at the Jiuduntan PV-based desert control demonstration park in Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu Province, a 3 million kW PV-based desert control project is under orderly construction. Trinasolar has supplied 1GW Vertex N-type 700W+ modules for the project, helping the park build an integrated green development benchmark combining PV-based desert control and energy storage. Upon completion, the project will generate approximately 5 billion kWh of electricity annually, restore ecology and control desertification across more than 70,000 mu, save over 614,500 mt of standard coal each year, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1.5977 million mt, demonstrating the sustainable development value of combining desert governance with new energy.

[SMM PV Newsletter] Shenzhen "Virtual Power Plant Town" PV Power Generation Achieves "Four Capabilities" Grid Connection
The second-phase PV power generation project of Shenzhen "Virtual Power Plant Town" successfully completed the "observable, measurable, adjustable, and controllable" full-function joint commissioning and acceptance on the 3rd and was officially connected to the grid, becoming the first demonstration project in Shenzhen to achieve PV "four capabilities" through virtual power plant aggregation, marking a new stage in China Southern Power Grid's ability to regulate distributed resources. In recent years, distributed PV in Shenzhen has seen explosive growth, with installed capacity reaching 1.47 million kW. However, PV power generation often depends on the weather, and the actual power generation and how to maximize generation benefits are difficult for the grid side to accurately grasp and effectively regulate, which not only puts pressure on the safe and stable operation of the power grid but also constrains the further improvement of new energy consumption capacity. To equip PV stations with the "four capabilities," in the past, dedicated hardware such as automation terminals had to be installed, requiring door-to-door construction and unit-by-unit joint commissioning and testing, which was costly and time-consuming. Enterprises were unwilling to invest, owners found it troublesome, and large-scale promotion faced numerous difficulties. "The PV power station connected to the grid this time covers 10 factory buildings and dormitories, with an installed capacity of 1.7 MW. In the early stage, our R&D team directly coordinated with equipment manufacturers, and the debugging of the digital technology pathway was completed before the equipment left the factory. The PV equipment is plug-and-play, and it only needs to be connected to the 'Virtual Power Plant Town' platform to be synchronously integrated into China Southern Power Grid's dispatch management," said Huang Ziqi, head of the operator of Shenzhen "Virtual Power Plant Town.
