[SMM Rare Earth Morning Meeting Summary: Pr-Nd Prices Rise Slightly, Market Purchase Willingness Remains Sluggish] Last week, influenced by news factors, Pr-Nd prices saw a slight boost, but the market's willingness to purchase at high prices was not strong, with price fluctuations being relatively small. With tightened shipments in the ion-adsorption ore market, raw material procurement has become more challenging for ion-adsorption ore separation enterprises. Prices are expected to gradually stabilize in the future.

SMM January 13 News:

Rare Earth Ore

Prices: Rare earth carbonate prices are approximately 32,500 yuan/mt, monazite prices are around 37,300 yuan/mt, and medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore standard ore prices are about 173,000 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Currently, the mining market activity is relatively low, suppliers show limited willingness to sell, spot cargo circulation is tightening, and overall trading remains subdued.

Rare Earth Oxides

Prices: The mainstream quotation range for Pr-Nd oxide is 400,000-401,000 yuan/mt; dysprosium oxide trading range is around 1.61-1.63 million yuan/mt, and terbium oxide prices are approximately 5.75-5.8 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Last week, influenced by market news, Pr-Nd prices saw a slight boost, but the willingness to purchase at high prices remained weak, with relatively small price fluctuations. With tightened shipments in the ion-adsorption ore market, raw material procurement for ion-adsorption ore separation enterprises has become more challenging, and prices are expected to gradually stabilize in the future.

Rare Earth Metals

Prices: The mainstream quotation for Pr-Nd alloy is approximately 490,000-493,000 yuan/mt, dysprosium-iron prices corresponding to oxide quotations are around 1.58-1.6 million yuan/mt, and terbium metal prices are about 7.2-7.25 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Recently, metal manufacturers have mainly followed oxide quotations, but actual trading volumes are not optimistic. As the year-end approaches, logistics are expected to halt soon, and suppliers show limited willingness to sell at low prices.

Magnetic Materials

Prices: NdFeB blank prices for NdFeB blank N35 (Ce) are reported at 125-135 yuan/kg; NdFeB blank 38H prices are reported at 170-180 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Last week, permanent magnet enterprises were busy wrapping up year-end work, paying little attention to market trends. Recently, due to shorter delivery cycles, end-user orders have been limited, resulting in lower blank prices corresponding to metal orders at this stage.

NdFeB Scrap

Prices: NdFeB scrap Pr-Nd prices are reported at 414-420 yuan/kg; NdFeB scrap dysprosium prices are reported at 1,559-1,580 yuan/kg; NdFeB scrap terbium prices are reported at 5,069-5,123 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Last week, the scrap market continued to perform steadily. Some traders seized the opportunity to expedite shipments before logistics halted, leading to increased shipping activities recently. Meanwhile, enterprises actively engaged in procurement and stockpiling, resulting in a significant rise in trading volume.

South Korea to Exempt Tariffs on Overseas-Sourced Critical Minerals
On the 25th, it was confirmed that the South Korean government will exempt tariffs of 3–8% on critical minerals such as lithium, graphite, and rare earth elements when domestically owned companies directly produce and import them from overseas. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has pre-announced a new regulation outlining tariff exemptions for overseas resource development projects. Under the policy, a total of 14 critical minerals—including lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc, and rare earth elements such as lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, terbium, dysprosium, yttrium, and scandium—will be eligible for duty exemption when brought into the country. The regulation is set to take effect on April 3.

[SMM Rare Earth Weekly Review: Rare Earth Prices Saw Relatively Small Fluctuations, While Downstream Procurement Demand Remained Weak] The Pr-Nd oxide market was relatively calm this week. Demand from downstream metal plants was sluggish, but upstream supply also remained tight. Suppliers were unwilling to make shipments at low prices, and the back-and-forth negotiations between upstream and downstream remained in a stalemate. Pr-Nd oxide prices saw small fluctuations to 710,000-715,000 yuan/mt.

Energy Fuels Produces First Terbium Oxide in US, Boosting Domestic Rare Earth Supply Chain
US rare earth producer Energy Fuels announced that its White Mesa mill in Utah has successfully produced its first batch of terbium oxide with a purity of 99.9. This marks the first time in decades that the US has produced this heavy rare earth element from primary mineral raw materials, using monazite mined in Florida and Georgia. The company had previously trial-produced dysprosium oxide at the facility and is expected to expand heavy rare earth capacity in the coming years. It is estimated that upon completion of the second-phase expansion in 2029, the White Mesa mill will have the annual capacity to produce dysprosium oxide (288 mt), terbium oxide (80 mt), and Pr-Nd oxide (6,000 mt), supporting the development of a domestic rare earth supply chain in the US.
