SMM, January 10:

From January 4 to January 10, 2025, the weekly operating rate of secondary lead in four provinces monitored by SMM was 42.44%, a WoW increase of 3.77 percentage points. Large smelters in Anhui resumed production, coupled with production increases at smelters that had previously halted operations due to environmental protection-related controls. This week, the operating rate of secondary lead smelters in Anhui increased by 13.36 percentage points. During the stockpiling phase ahead of the Chinese New Year, raw material inventory levels at smelters in Jiangsu and Henan rose, but production showed no significant changes, and operating rates remained stable. A large smelter in Inner Mongolia reported halting production during the week, with the resumption date yet to be determined; the regional operating rate dropped by 36.57 percentage points.

【Flash | Coherent’s PhotonLink Sets the Stage for a Commercial Indium Phosphide (InP) Ramp】
Coherent launched PhotonLink, an integrated optics platform for AI infrastructure incorporating Indium Phosphide (InP) lasers, silicon photonics, detectors and optical modules. The company disclosed more than 10 CPO engagements, over 10 NPO engagements and more than five chip-to-chip connectivity projects, with anchor customers and long-term agreements secured for both CPO and NPO. Revenue is expected to begin ramping in Q4 2026. Coherent has shipped over 300 million InP lasers and is expanding its 6-inch InP manufacturing capacity to support the ramp. The customer pipeline provides a clearer commercial demand signal for InP devices and upstream materials, although additional capacity and indium consumption were not disclosed.

Nine Mile’s Second Rig Arrives at Tribag–West Wedge to Test Seven Electromagnetic Targets
Nine Mile Metals announced that its second rig had arrived at Tribag–West Wedge in New Brunswick, Canada, with drilling expected to begin at Tribag in the coming days. Seven modelled electromagnetic targets are associated with the Tribag lead-zinc and West Wedge copper-lead-zinc occurrences. Wedge drilling continues in parallel. By September 21, the company had completed 18 holes totaling 4,934.50 metres of its 10,000-metre annual program. The conductors remain geophysical targets requiring drilling to establish their source.

Masivo Silver reported assays from CC-26-001, its first hole at Cerro Colorado in Sonora, Mexico. The hole intersected 32.50 metres from 226.30 to 258.80 metres averaging 0.271% zinc, 0.141% lead and 7.0 g/t silver. Technical difficulties ended drilling at 259.5 metres while the hole remained within mineralized rock.
