Beijing (Gasgoo)- BAIC Group recently signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Alkan Auto, a subsidiary of Egyptian International Motors, to establish an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Egypt.

This collaboration aims to position Egypt as an industrial hub in North Africa, promoting the localization of the automotive industry and its supporting sectors. The Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Transport has pledged full support to accelerate the project's transition to production.

Set to cover an area of 120,000 square meters, the plant is expected to commence operation by late 2025, with an initial annual production goal of 20,000 vehicles, scaling up to 50,000 by its fifth year. Alongside meeting local demand, the plant will serve as a key export center for the Middle East and Africa markets, creating approximately 1,200 jobs for the Egyptian workforce.

In line with BAIC Group's market expansion efforts, the company recently launched its first flagship store in Cairo, debuting the U5 PLUS, Mofang, and new X7 models, which have quickly attracted Egyptian consumers with advanced features and high quality. BAIC further expanded its local lineup on October 20 by introducing the BJ30, a lightweight electric 4WD SUV designed for off-road performance.

With a presence in 49 countries, BAIC Group's globalization strategy continues to gain momentum, with Egypt emerging as a pivotal market. BAIC and Alkan Auto will collaborate on comprehensive initiatives spanning sales, professional services, and mobility solutions to unlock broader market potential across the region.
