Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 14, Volvo Cars announced the further deepening of its strategic partnership with the China Automotive Technology and Research Center New Energy Vehicle Testing Center (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. ("CATARC NEV Testing Center"). Together, the two parties inaugurated a "New Energy Joint Innovation Base" to promote collaborative development in the field of electrification.

The partnership will focus on several key areas, including the development trends of regulations and policies in the electrification space, research on user behavior, and the exploration, development, and application of long-term forward-looking industry technologies. Both parties aim to drive the collaborative advancement of electrification technology within the automotive industry.

As one of the first traditional luxury car brands to undergo a full-scale electrification transformation, Volvo Cars has been at the forefront of electric mobility with its comprehensive electrification strategy. The newly established New Energy Joint Innovation Lab will accelerate innovation in high-voltage battery platforms, electric drive systems, and charging experience technology for Volvo. Additionally, it will facilitate discussions on cutting-edge industry regulations and policies, helping to overcome critical technological bottlenecks in new energy vehicles (NEVs) and drive sustained industry growth.

The New Energy Joint Innovation Base will be composed of three core parts: a Multi-Domain Electric Drive Lab, a High-Voltage Battery Safety Lab, and a Charging Experience Development Lab. Leveraging Volvo's cutting-edge research capabilities and CATARC's expertise in key technology development, standard drafting, and professional testing, the collaboration aims to create a comprehensive platform for technological advancement.

The Multi-Domain Electric Drive Lab will feature a comprehensive technical service matrix focused on energy efficiency, safety, and comfort, accelerating the research and development of electric drive systems. The High-Voltage Battery Safety Lab will center on two key areas: "full lifecycle performance and reliability testing" and "multi-level safety quantification testing" of power batteries, building a battery benchmark database and providing safety grading capabilities. Meanwhile, the Charging Experience Development Lab will assess NEV charging from various angles, including compatibility and safety, to support product development with enhanced quality and efficiency.
