Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 15, CATL (HK) International R&D Center was officially inaugurated in Hong Kong Science & Technology Park, marking a significant progress of CATL's R&D deployment in the city.

Spanning over 800 square meters, the new R&D center is CATL's sixth global R&D facility outside of the Chinese Mainland and Germany. In its first phase, the center will initiate nearly 100 R&D projects and plans to hire 200 staff members. Additionally, CATL will collaborate with local universities to foster industry-academia partnerships, accelerating the development of Hong Kong's new energy vehicle value chain and zero-carbon initiatives.

CATL said Hong Kong's unique position as a global financial, trade, and shipping hub offers significant advantages in terms of collaboration with international universities, access to high-level talent, and the development of international platforms. The Hong Kong R&D center is expected to serve as a crucial base for CATL's global new energy strategy, harnessing global expertise to advance the company's mission.

Sun Dong, Hong Kong's Secretary for Innovation, Technology, and Industry, commented, "Over the past two years, we have successfully attracted more than 100 key innovation and technology enterprises to establish or expand their operations in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong government is committed to deepening the city's innovation ecosystem and maximizing the value these companies can create here."

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
