Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, GAC AION held a grand launch event for the AION brand and its AION Y Plus model at the GAC showroom in Doha, marking the brand's official entry into the Qatari market, according to a press release GAC AION issued on October 7 via its WeChat account.

As countries worldwide embrace the shift toward renewable energy, governments are implementing policies to accelerate energy transitions and reduce carbon emissions. Electric vehicles (EVs) are seen as a critical component in this effort. In its "Qatar National Vision 2030," the Qatari government has committed to replacing all standard passenger buses with electric ones by 2030. Against this backdrop, GAC Group introduced the AION brand in Qatar, joining GAC MOTOR to form a dual-brand lineup. The automaker said the debut of the AION Y Plus EV injects fresh momentum into Qatar's EV market and signals the brand's commitment to advancing green transportation in the country.

At the event, Marco Melani, Regional President of Al-Futtaim Group's automotive division, stated, "Tonight, we are officially launching the AION brand, introducing its first new energy vehicle model—the stylish and practical AION Y Plus for the local market. Qatar’s electrification process is rapidly accelerating, and with the introduction of the AION brand, we plan to further expand our range of electric vehicles, including the HYPTEC HT, HYPTEC GT, and HYPTEC SSR models, to meet the diverse needs of Qatari consumers."

As the first full electric SUV launched by GAC Group in Qatar, the AION Y Plus features a sleek design, spacious interior, advanced technology, and impressive driving range, offering Qatari consumers a new, eco-friendly driving experience.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
