[Zeng Yuqun: Half of the World's Batteries in 2042 Can Be Produced with Recycled Lithium] On September 27th, Zeng Yuqun, Chairman of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), stated at the World New Energy Vehicle Congress that batteries, capable of storing renewable energy, are crucial to achieving carbon neutrality.
It is predicted that in the future, half of the global battery production will rely on recycled lithium. CATL's battery recycling business has already begun to scale up, with a current capacity to process 270,000 tonnes of used batteries, and plans to increase this to 1 million tonnes in the future.
In 2023, CATL recycled 100,000 tonnes of used batteries, repurposed the materials, and reproduced 13,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate. In terms of battery raw material recycling, the recovery rate for lithium has reached 91%, while that for nickel, cobalt, and manganese is as high as 99.6%.
