Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Recently, BYD introduced its new energy pickup, the BYD SHARK, in Panama, marking the company's first PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) model launched in the country, according to a post on BYD's WeChat account.

Equipped with a super hybrid off-road platform for pickups, the BYD SHARK combines both oil and electric power modes to achieve impressive range capabilities. Under NEDC conditions, the vehicle boasts a combined range of 840 km, with a battery-powered range of 100 km, making it suitable for both urban commuting and long-distance travel.

The design of the new pickup draws inspiration from the agility and power of sharks, breaking away from the traditional heavy aesthetics of pickup trucks and merging cutting-edge technology with rugged strength, said BYD.

Eduardo López de Victoria, Regional General Manager of BYD Central America and the Caribbean, commented, "The pickup market in Panama has shown significant growth in recent years, as these vehicles cater to both business and personal needs across various scenarios. In this context, the launch of the BYD SHARK aligns with market demand, offering a user-friendly design, the DMO platform, and smart configurations to provide a new travel experience.”

Currently, BYD operates two dealer stores in Panama and has plans to continue expanding its sales channels to offer local consumers more convenient, efficient purchasing, usage, and after-sales service experiences, supporting the region's transition to greener transportation.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
