[SMM Steel Shipping] Last week, China's total export volume was up 31% WoW

I. Domestic Steel Shipping

1. Shipment Data

Last week (2024.7.27-2024.8.2)

SMM reported that the total steel shipments from ports nationwide were 6.3488 million mt, up 509,600 mt WoW, an increase of 9%. Among them, the total shipments from the six major northern ports (Jingtang Port, Caofeidian Port, Bayuquan Port, Tianjin New Port, Huanghua Port, Jinzhou Port) were 1.8922 million mt, up 528,700 mt WoW, accounting for 30% of the total shipments. The total shipments from the three major east China ports (Shanghai Port, Zhangjiagang Port, Lanbei Port) were 651,300 mt, up 12,910 mt WoW, accounting for 10% of the total shipments. The total shipments from the two major south China ports (Zhanjiang Port, Fangchenggang Port) were 460,900 mt, up 98,600 mt WoW, accounting for 7% of the total shipments.

2. Port Arrivals Data

Last week (2024.7.27-2024.8.2)

The total port arrivals of SMM China steel were 6.4851 million mt, up 65,800 mt WoW, an increase of 1%. Among them, the total port arrivals at 13 main ports in east China were 4.1569 million mt, up 153,400 mt WoW, accounting for 64% of last week's total port arrivals. The total port arrivals at Guangzhou Port in south China were 179,700 mt, down 145,000 mt, accounting for 3% of this week's total port arrivals.

II. Steel Foreign Trade Shipping

1. Shipment Data

Last week (2024.7.27-2024.8.2)

Global (excluding China) port steel shipments were 2.0335 million mt, down 11% WoW. Chinese port shipments were 2.5244 million mt, up 31% WoW.

By product type,

Last week, global port steel plate shipments were 158,500 mt, down 11% WoW. Global port steel coil shipments were 434,600 mt, up 59%. Global port pig iron shipments were 751,300 mt, down 25%. Global port steel billet shipments were 267,800 mt, down 49%.

2. Port Arrivals Data

Last week (2024.7.27-2024.8.2)

The total amount of steel arriving at 119 Chinese ports was 41.82 mt, up 99,600 mt WoW, an increase of 31%.
