According to customs data:
In June 2024, China's total lithium carbonate imports were approximately 19,600 mt, down 20.3% MoM, with an average import price of around $12,309/mt.
Among them, imports from Chile were about 15,700 mt, down 22.6% MoM, accounting for 79.9% of the total imports; imports from Argentina were about 3,400 mt, down 7.3% MoM, accounting for 17.5% of the total imports. Chile and Argentina remain the main sources of China's lithium carbonate imports, maintaining a relatively strong position. Additionally, Argentina recently announced the expansion of four major lithium mines, which will largely increase the volume of lithium carbonate exported to China and may capture part of Chile's export market.
In June, the largest customs clearance destination for China's lithium carbonate imports was still Shanghai, with an import volume of about 12,100 mt, accounting for 61.7% of the total.
