On May 21, autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai announced that it has obtained Guangzhou city's first intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) expressway test permit.

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On May 21, autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai announced that it has obtained Guangzhou city's first intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) expressway test permit, with one autonomous taxi (Robotaxi) and one autonomous truck model selected for testing. This milestone means autonomous vehicles in Guangzhou are allowed to operate on high-speed roads from now on.

The approved test routes in Guangzhou include Nansha Port Expressway and Congpu Expressway (Phase 1), totaling approximately 105 kilometers. This marks the first high-speed road test route for ICVs in the city.

Securing this permit reaffirms Pony.ai's technological prowess. The two models approved for testing are the Toyota Sienna equipped with Pony.ai's sixth-generation autonomous driving system and the SANY truck with the company's third-generation autonomous truck system.

Previously, Pony.ai was authorized to conduct autonomous truck tests on the Jingjintang Expressway, making it the first company in China to receive a cross-provincial expressway autonomous truck test permit.

Pony.ai is committed to both Robotaxi services and autonomous trucking, advancing fully driverless technology on urban roads and highways. As of May 2024, Pony.ai has accumulated over 33 million kilometers of autonomous driving test distance, with more than 3 million kilometers in fully driverless testing. In autonomous trucking field, as of the end of March 2024, the company has logged nearly 5 million kilometers of testing distance, over 1.5 million kilometers in commercial logistics operations, and transported a total of nearly 2.5 million tonne-kilometers of freight.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
