EMR, the largest scrap car recycler in the UK, announced on May 2 that it has determined to acquire a significant stake in Australian renewable metals company (Renewable Metals). Through this merger and acquisition deal, EMR will build a pilot-scale power battery refinery in its Birmingham R&D center in the UK to extract key battery minerals. It is reported that the factory will adopt a recycling process that can achieve a higher recovery rate without producing sodium sulfate. It will process discharged battery modules through crushing and refining to produce LME-grade nickel and copper, as well as cobalt, lithium, and manganese salts.
