Putailai Reports 36.64% Decrease in Net Profit for Q1 2024

Published: Apr 16, 2024 09:28
Putailai: Net profit in the first quarter was 445 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 36.64%. Putailai announced that the company achieved operating revenue of 3.034 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2024, a year-on-year decrease of 17.97%; net profit was 445 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 36.64%; and basic earnings per share was 0.21 yuan. One of the main products, negative electrode materials, was affected by industry overcapacity in 2023, leading to a decrease in sales price and unit profit. The slow consumption of inventory and continuous increase in provision for impairment resulted in a decline in quarterly profits in 2023. In the first quarter of 2024, the unit price and profit of negative electrodes declined significantly compared to the first quarter of 2023. By the end of 2023, the high-priced inventory of negative electrodes had been fully consumed, and cost reduction measures in production are expected to show results gradually in 2024. The company's profitability in the first quarter of 2024 improved significantly compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, and it is expected that the profitability of negative electrode products will continue to improve.

Battery-Grade Lithium Sulfide: Will Q4 See a Spike?
Key takeaway upfront: A Q4 spike is unlikely, but we do expect continued moderate growth. Monthly output is likely to settle in the 9–10 tonne range – a modest step-up from Q3, not an explosive leap.
