The cost efficiency of stainless steel scrap was restored amid rapid price fall, even as high-grade NPI price also dropped

Currently, the cost of producing stainless steel from stainless steel scrap is around 13,772.37 yuan/mt, while producing it from high-grade NPI costs about 14,172.71 yuan/mt.

Currently, the cost of producing stainless steel from stainless steel scrap is around 13,772.37 yuan/mt, while producing it from high-grade NPI costs about 14,172.71 yuan/mt. In the southern China market, the buying price for 304 stainless steel scrap plummeted by 500 yuan/mt due to the weakening prices of both 304 finished products and high-grade NPI.

High-grade NPI prices have once again decreased. High inventories of high-grade NPI, coupled with Indonesian high-grade nickel matte production lines shifting to produce high-grade NPI, have heightened supply/ demand imbalance. Traders are forced to lower prices for sales, and the short-term outlook for high-grade NPI prices is expected to be weak.
