In the week ending November 9, lithium carbonate prices continued to fall. Upstream salt plants insisted on their prices for spot orders, but with the sparse transactions, prices would only go down. Some downstream ternary cathode material producers have been offloading lithium carbonate stock, suggesting a short-term focus on inventory reduction for cost efficiency, thereby capping short-term demand growth for lithium carbonate. With some smelters who source raw materials externally operating at losses, a slowdown in the drop of spot market transaction prices is anticipated.

Arenko Selected to Optimize Ørsted's 300 MW/600 MWh Iceni BESS, Europe's First Co-Located Offshore Wind Battery Project
British software firm Arenko has been selected to deploy its Nimbus optimization, asset management, and trading platform at Ørsted's Iceni battery energy storage project in the UK, the companies announced on August 18, 2026. The 300 MW/600 MWh facility is co-located with Ørsted's 2.9 GW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, making it the first battery storage project in Europe to be paired with an offshore wind installation at this scale. Arenko's AI-driven platform will manage the asset's participation across power market arbitrage, frequency response, and capacity services to maximize revenue stack. The project represents a significant technical milestone for the integration of intermittent offshore wind with grid-scale storage, offering a potential template for future North Sea and Baltic Sea developments as European offshore wind capacity continues to scale.

[SMM Analysis] Chinese Buying Interest Strengthens, Drawing Attention to Shifts in Korea’s Nickel Sulphate Export Market
SMM’s Battery-grade Nickel Sulphate, CIF China price remained broadly stable around $3,700/wmt in August, while Chinese buying inquiries for Korean material became more active toward month-end. However, stronger procurement has yet to translate into a clear recovery in ternary downstream demand, leaving the sustainability of the improvement dependent on actual precursor and cathode production growth.
