On October 29th, local time, the Kazakh Emergency Department announced that the death toll of the coal mine explosion accident operated by the local subsidiary of steel manufacturer Ansailemiter (MT.LU) in Karaganda State, Kostanay, has risen to 45, with one missing.

A fire broke out in the Kostanay coal mine at around midnight on the 28th, causing a methane explosion. The explosion was so powerful that it caused a paralysis of the telecommunications system in some parts of the city. There were 252 people in the mine when the accident occurred. Karaganda State is one of the energy bases of Kazakhstan, known for its high-quality coking coal.
