During the 2023 National Industrial Metrology Conference and the inaugural National Industrial Metrology Testing Alliance event held on September 13, the Metrology Department under the State Administration for Market Supervision and Administration unveiled the initial compilation of 118 outstanding achievements in industrial metrology. Among these achievements, five were attributed to the National Aluminium Industry Measurement and Testing Centre established by China's Southwest Aluminium. These contributions encompassed one breakthrough in measurement and testing technology, one innovative measurement and testing equipment, two novel measurement and testing methodologies, and one exemplary measurement and testing service case.
In response to the obstruction of access to residual stress testing technology for thick aluminium alloy plates, the National Aluminium Industry Measurement and Testing Center has successfully pioneered an independent solution. They have developed a cutting-edge residual stress testing method and equipment accustomed explicitly to thick aluminium alloy plates. This innovation utilizes the meticulously chosen "slit warping method residual stress measurement technology for aluminium alloy." This breakthrough has effectively addressed the challenge of detecting previously elusive residual stress levels in thick aluminium alloy plates, consequently fulfilling the rigorous testing requirements for aluminium alloy plates essential to critical national sectors.
The "Aluminium Alloy Standard Sample" is a comprehensive collection of 38 types of aluminium alloy samples, spanning the 1-8 series of deformed and cast aluminium alloys. These samples result from independent research and development efforts, which have successfully overcome technical barriers previously imposed by developed countries. These standardized samples find applications across various industries, including energy-transportation, and are utilized by nearly 1,000 service industry enterprises.
Furthermore, the inclusion of two distinct measurement and testing methods, namely the "Spalling Corrosion Test Method for Aluminium Alloy Products" and the "Chemical Analysis Method for Lithium Element Analysis in Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys," has significantly expanded the scope of detection and analysis in this field. These methods have not only broadened the horizons of measurement but have also contributed to filling critical gaps in European, American, and international standards, thereby enhancing the quality and reliability of aluminium alloy products worldwide.

Macro and Geopolitical Factors Resonated During Labour Day Holiday, LME Outperforms SHFE for Aluminum [SMM Analysis]
In the short term, the core pattern of LME outperforms SHFE is unlikely to reverse. Strength in the overseas market will support SHFE aluminum's post-holiday catch-up potential, but high domestic inventory and weak demand will cap overall gains. Going forward, key focus will be on the pace of China aluminum ingot destocking and the strength of rigid demand release from downstream production resumptions.

[SMM Aluminum Flash News] South Korea Boosts SME R&D to Cut Carbon Exposure Under CBAM Pressure
South Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups, together with TIPA, has launched the “2026 Carbon Reduction R&D for Core Export Items” project, focusing on developing carbon reduction technologies for high-emission products such as aluminium and steel to address CBAM-related cost pressures. The project, open for applications in May, covers fuel substitution, process optimisation and resource recycling, with support for real-world implementation and verification. Running until 2030 with a total budget of about USD 73 million, the initiative aims to enhance SMEs’ export competitiveness under tightening global carbon regulations.
