SHANGHAI, Apr 19 (SMM) – The proportion of medium-nickel series in total ternary cathode precursor output shrank in March as demand from domestic NEV market softened.
Ternary lithium batteries adopted by domestic NEV makers mostly come in the 5 and 6-series. NEV and battery cell makers barely made procurement under enormous pressure to destock, prompting precursor plants to reduce their portfolio of medium-nickel products.
In contrast, the overseas demand outperformed domestic demand, allowing the share of high-nickel precursors to grow.
However, the share of high-nickel precursor may shrink in April due to softening overseas demand.
