SMM Statistics on Port Shipments of Steel Products under Domestic Trade during March 25-March 31

SMM statistics showed that China’s steel product port shipments under domestic trade totalled 5.21 million mt in the week of March 25-31, down 11% week-on-week.

SHANGHAI, Apr 31 (SMM) – SMM statistics showed that China’s steel product port shipments under domestic trade totalled 5.21 million mt in the week of March 25-31, down 11% week-on-week.

Steel product arrivals across Chinese ports under domestic trade were 5.90 million mt last week, up 10% on a weekly basis.

Exports of steel and related products

Port shipments outside China were 1.52 million mt last week, down 16% from a week ago. Shipments by Chinese ports for exports were 1.98 million mt, an increase of 71% on a weekly basis.

HRC futures consolidated at highs today, with the most-traded contract closing at 3,302, down 0.36% for the day. Spot market, prices in most major markets were largely stable. In terms of supply, production resumed in North China, and HRC production rebounded by 30,700 mt WoW this week, with further increases expected later. Demand side, end-users made normal purchases after the holiday, gradually rising to seasonal levels. In terms of raw materials, ongoing disruptions outside China continued to support costs. Overall, HRC remained in a pattern of simultaneous recovery in both supply and demand in the short term.
