Import Window of Secondary Aluminium Alloy Begins to Open

According to customs data, in March 2023, China imported a total of 147,900 mt of aluminium scrap and shredded materials, an increase of 5.27% from February and a year-on-year increase of 35.81%.

SHANGHAI, May 16 (SMM) - According to customs data, China imported 98,300 mt of unwrought aluminium alloy in March, down 18.5% YoY, but up 11.8% MoM. The imports totalled 267,200 mt in the first quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 18.8%.  

China imported 2.1 million mt of copper ore and concentrate in April 2023, up 11.6% on the year and 4.1% on the month. YTD imports through April stood at 8.76 million mt, up 6.7% year-on-year. SMM predicts that China's copper ore and concentrate imports in May will fall to 2.076 million mt due to the reduction in raw materials demand from Chinese smelters undertaking maintenance.

According to Preliminary Data Released by the US Census Bureau, The UNITED States Imported 2.614 Million Shor. t mt of Steel in March 2023, an increase of 14.2% compared with the final value in february, and the highest since July 2022.

SHANGHAI, Jan 3 (SMM) - SMM statistics showed that China’s steel product port shipments by domestic trade totalled 6.03 million mt in the week of December 24-30, up 12% week-on-week.

China imported 597,000 mt of ferronickel and NPI in November, up 11.19% MoM and 105.7% YoY.

SHANGHAI, Dec 19 (SMM) - SMM statistics showed that China’s port shipments of steel and related products under domestic trade totalled 5.54 million mt in the week of December 10-16, down 7% week-on-week.

Shanghai nonferrous metals closed mixed as the investors stay keen to the imminent Jackson Hole speech to be delivered by Powell, who is expected to provide more clues on the pace and direction US rate hike.

Some traders reported that they could merely deliver the long-term orders of blister copper, and the spot transactions were even scarce.
