Spot Prices of Pure Nickel Climb amid Expectations for Improved Consumption

On January 30, spot premiums of Jinchuan nickel stood at 9,000-12,000 yuan/mt. The average price was 10,500 yuan/mt, up 750 yuan/mt from the previous trading day.

SHANGHAI, Jan 30 (SMM) - Spot premiums of Jinchuan nickel started to be quoted against SHFE 2303 nickel contract, while Norilsk nickel remained quoted against SHFE 2302 contract.

On January 30, spot premiums of Jinchuan nickel stood at 9,000-12,000 yuan/mt. The average price was 10,500 yuan/mt, up 750 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Premiums of Norilsk nickel were quoted at 5,500-6,000 yuan/mt, with an average of 5,750 yuan/mt, flat from the prior trading day. The spot prices rose following SHFE nickel that got off with a good start in the morning session today with optimism about consumption after the Chinese New Year holiday.

In terms of nickel briquette, the prices were 226,000-226,600 yuan/mt, an increase of 3,700 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The transactions of nickel briquette were slack as it was still traded at premiums over nickel sulphate.
