In December 2022, China exported 219,500 mt of PV glass, a month-on-month increase of 7.6 & and a year-on-year increase of 26.66%; from January to December 2022, the cumulative export volume was 2.25 million mt, a year-on-year increase of 6.83%. Vietnam was the biggest importer and imported 46,900 mt of PV glass from China, down 4.48% on the month.

SHANGHAI, Jan 29 (SMM) - In December 2022, China exported 219,500 mt of PV glass, a month-on-month increase of 7.6 & and a year-on-year increase of 26.66%; from January to December 2022, the cumulative export volume was 2.25 million mt, a year-on-year increase of 6.83%. Vietnam was the biggest importer and imported 46,900 mt of PV glass from China, down 4.48% on the month.

The demand from Southeast Asia remained strong and the exports in December was 84,800 mt, a month-on-month increase of 16.48%. The major importers were Vietnam, India, South Korea, Cambodia and Thailand with exports accounted for 61.69% of the total amount. Compared with November, Vietnam's import amount decreased 4.48% to 46,900 mt, accounting for 21.37% of the total exports. India's import amount increased 15.98% month-on-month to 31,100 mt, accounting for 14.17% of the total exports. South Korea's import amount declined 8.88% on the month to 23,600 mt, accounting for 10.75%. Cambodia's import amount was increased 111.11% on the month to 19,000 mt, accounting for 8.67% of the total exports. Thailand's import amount increased 12.76% from the previous month to 14,900 mt, accounting for 6.79% of the total exports.

According to SMM, the exports in December increased mainly due to the impact of the newly-installed photovoltaics capacity overseas at the end of 2022, especially the Southeast Asian countries. In January 2023, due to the impact of the Chinese New Year holiday, domestic exports of PV glass will decline amid the halted logistics services and the holidays.

[SMM PV Flash] ContourGlobal Completes Construction of 324MW Solar PV Complex in Colorado
Independent power producer (IPP) ContourGlobal, in partnership with a local public power utility, has completed the construction of the 324MW Black Hollow Sun solar PV complex in Colorado, US, four months ahead of schedule. The full commissioning of this project will supply substantial clean energy to the local grid. With this completion, ContourGlobal's total operating and under-construction renewable energy portfolio in the US has reached 1.5GW. The smooth progress of such utility-scale projects indicates that the US utility-scale solar market maintains a steady installation momentum.

[SMM PV Flash] Germany Anticipates Over 600,000 Tonnes of Solar PV Waste by 2030
According to recent research, with the large-scale aging of early solar power plants, Germany is on course to generate over 600,000 tonnes of end-of-life solar PV modules by 2030. By the end of 2023, installed modules contain significant recyclable materials holding billions of euros in recovery potential for metals like aluminum and silver. Advancing large-scale module recycling not only meets environmental mandates and absorption pressures but also supplements the upstream auxiliary supply chain with extracted high-value metals, paving the way for accelerated growth in Europe's local PV recycling industry.

[SMM PV Flash] First Solar Sues JA Solar and Corning Subsidiary in US Over TOPCon Patent Infringement
On October 1, US solar manufacturer First Solar filed a patent infringement lawsuit in a Delaware federal court against Chinese module manufacturer JA Solar and American Panel Solutions, a subsidiary of Corning. First Solar alleges that these companies engaged in the unauthorized use of its core patents related to the manufacturing of TOPCon crystalline silicon solar cells. As competition within the global PV supply chain intensifies, technical patent scrutiny targeting leading Chinese module makers expanding overseas is becoming stricter, which may bring uncertainties to their capacity expansion and sales in the North American market.
