SHFE Nickel Prices Dipped amid Weakening Demand

Spot quotations have been made against the SHFE 2302 nickel contract. On January 17, spot premiums of Jinchuan nickel stood at 11,000-12,000 yuan/mt, with an average premium of 11,500 yuan/mt, which was 750 yuan/mt lower than yesterday.

SHANGHAI, Jan 17 — Spot quotations have been made against the SHFE 2302 nickel contract. On January 17, spot premiums of Jinchuan nickel stood at 11,000-12,000 yuan/mt, with an average premium of 11,500 yuan/mt, which was 750 yuan/mt lower than yesterday. The premiums of NORNICKEL nickel stood at 6,700-7,200 yuan/mt, with an average premium of 6,950 yuan/mt, down 200 yuan/mt from yesterday.

In the morning, spot premiums fell amid quiet trading.

On the nickel briquettes front, the prices stood at 208,500-209,000 yuan/mt, a drop of 750 yuan/mt. The prices of nickel briquettes outstripped nickel sulphate, and spot transactions were subdued.

Copper Prices Down On Rebounding US Dollar Index

The LME Was Closed On Monday due to the Easter holiday. SHFE 2305 copper contract finished at 68,460 yuan/mt overnight, down 0.45%. Trading volume was 23,000 lots, and open interest stood at 163,000 lots. On the macro front, the US employment report released last Friday was mixed, which strengthened the expectation of a 25 basis point rate hike in the US in May. The US dollar index strengthened overnight, weighing on copper prices.
