SHANGHAI, Aug 19 (SMM) - In terms of battery models, SMM expects the output of NMC battery to be 32 GWh in the third quarter, and that of LFP battery to be 111 GWh, up 28% and 61% from the second quarter, respectively, which will push the new demand for lithium battery copper foil to exceed 30,000 mt (regardless of inventory and other factors). According to the supply of lithium battery copper foil, in the second half of 2022, 140,000 mt of lithium battery copper foil will be put into production. Most of the factories under construction have been completed, and the equipment is in the stage of purchase or commissioning. According to the cycle of trial production, commissioning and the ramp-up of the new capacity in the second half of 2022 plus the rising production of new capacity in H1, SMM expects the theoretical maximum shipment of lithium battery copper foil in H2 to be 170,000 mt, up 37,000 mt or 28% from H1.

Sungrow: The Global Energy Storage Market Is Expected to Grow by 30–50 in 2026
At a conference call on March 31, Sungrow stated regarding the company’s overall target plan for energy storage shipments in 2026 that the global market is expected to grow by 30–50 in 2026. With raw material prices rising, some projects were in a wait-and-see stage, but the demand should still exist and would only be deferred. The company will strive based on the upper end of market growth, hoping to achieve more than 60 Gwh.

Tozero Launches Industrial Demo Plant to Recover Lithium from Waste Batteries
German company, Tozero, announced on March 27 (local time) the official launch of its industrial-scale demonstration plant. The company has built a facility at the Gendorf chemical park in Bavaria, Germany, capable of processing more than 1,500 tons of waste batteries annually. The process enables the recovery of lithium carbonate, graphite, and nickel-cobalt mixtures from spent batteries for reuse as battery raw materials. The plant is expected to recycle resources equivalent to batteries from approximately 6,000 electric vehicles per year, reducing reliance on landfill disposal.
