Turkey Discovers 694 million mt of Rare Earth Element Reserves, with Infrastructure Construction Starting This Year

The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources recently announced on its official website that the government has discovered 694 million mt of rare earth elements in the Beylikova region of Eskişehir, Turkey.

SHANGHAI, Jul 5 (SMM) - The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources recently announced on its official website that the government has discovered 694 million mt of rare earth elements in the Beylikova region of Eskişehir, Turkey. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih said that the drilling work started in 2011 and that the samples collected were fully analysed, leading to the discovery of 694 million mt of rare earth elements. Fatih disclosed that the construction of industrial facilities is expected to start this year after the relevant R&D work is completed, with the ultimate goal of producing high value-added products.

Lynas is currently the only commercial producer outside China capable of separating samarium, terbium, and dysprosium. The preliminary agreement between the two parties also involves each subscribing to convertible bonds worth about AUD 30 million.

It is expected to produce light rare earth oxides for the first time in May 2026 and heavy rare earth oxides in August.
