Customs information shows that the export volume of China's aluminum products increased significantly from January to February this year. The global epidemic situation and energy shortage have led to the increase of market dependence on Chinese aluminum materials and products, and the sharp rise in international aluminum prices is also conducive to China's exports, bringing new opportunities to China's aluminum industry chain. The export of aluminum products has also made an important contribution to the smooth operation of the industry and to the realization of "six stability" and "six guarantees".

From January to February 2022, cumulative exports of aluminum and its products totaled US $6.557 billion, an increase of 37.9% over the same period last year. In the ranking of export trading partners of aluminum and its products, exports to the United States totaled US $780 million from January to February, continuing to rank first. Mexico, Japan, South Korea and Thailand ranked second to fifth, but the numbers of all the United States were very different. Similarly, in the ranking of China's cumulative export market for aluminum wheels from January to February, the United States ranked first with US $320 million, exceeding the sum of No. 2-7.

Despite this and that, in fact, the United States is still the largest export market for Chinese aluminum products, and this position has been maintained for 17 years since 2005.

Rio Tinto Secures Bell Bay Smelter Operations Through End-2031
Rio Tinto announced on October 1 that it had reached agreements with the Tasmanian Government, the Australian Commonwealth Government and Hydro Tasmania to extend electricity supply to the Bell Bay aluminium smelter through the end of 2031. The two governments will also provide a combined A$200 million support package over five years, contributing A$100 million each. Commercial terms of the power agreement were not disclosed. Bell Bay produces around 190,000 tonnes of primary aluminium annually, while its existing electricity contract was due to expire at the end of 2026. The agreement removes the smelter’s immediate operational uncertainty. Bell Bay is the third major Australian aluminium smelter to receive government-backed support in 2026, following Boyne and Tomago, highlighting continued pressure from high electricity costs and international competition.
