SHANGHAI, Feb 9 - SMM survey showed that three NPI plants in Hebei and Shandong are currently shut down in response to environmental protection policies, and the production will not resume until around the end of the month. In addition, a large NPI plant in Shandong also reduced production due to environmental protection policies, and as February is a shorter month, its output in February is expected to drop to below 100,000 mt. Some NPI plants in Liaoning have also stopped production for maintenance.

As such, the output of NPI may drop significantly in February. The large supply gap of NPI and firm prices of stainless steel may offer upward momentum to NPI prices in the short term.
